Training has always been a
high priority in the company, and for
this reason our own training centre,
Thuthukani Training, was established some
20 years ago.
A detailed training needs
analysis is done every year and a range of
courses are presented at Thuthukani
Training. The training needs that we are
not able to fulfil are outsourced to
institutions such as universities,
colleges, external companies and
individuals.
Proper career and skills
development planning is in place for
every employee of the company. All our
drivers receive intensive training before
they are allowed to drive on their
own. All drivers receive
re-training every year during a two-week
refresher course.
An average of between 600 to 800
students pass through Thuthukani every
year. Almost all technical training of
staff is undertaken by the company
itself. Buscor sends between 12 and
15 technical personnel for trade tests
every year. Over the last three
years 18 members enrolled at universities
for further studies.
Buscor is one of seven companies
in the industry who presents Driver
Learnerships. Skills Programmes
commenced in September
2002. This means that our
drivers are trained towards a national
qualification. More than 280 of our
drivers have already qualified as
Professional Drivers and received the
certificate in Professional Driving (NQF
Level 3.)
We have
also trained 200 unemployed candidates in the
same qualification over the past three years
and 110 unemployed candidates in a Technical
Learnership over the same period.
In the
previous financial year almost R3,5 million was
spent on training and develop-ment of our
staff.
