The DJ played great music, practitioners danced and Pamela Mahlalela recited a poem celebrating Buscor’s commitment to community development. Everyone sang the national anthem and the event began!

Speech of the Day: Holistic Child Development
Mr. S. Nkuna, Executive HR Manager of Buscor, welcomed everyone and introduced the day’s proceedings with a powerful speech. He emphasized the importance of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) program and how the lack of resources often compromises quality education in South Africa. He pointed out that poor-quality early childhood education leads to poor learning outcomes, leaving children unprepared for school and life. Mr. Nkuna praised Buscor for its role in the child development program which bridge the educational gap by training childcare teachers and providing opportunities for children without access to quality early education.
Mr. Nkuna highlighted that the program supports physical and mental growth, helping lift children from poverty. Research shows children in poverty face more struggles and are less prepared for work. He noted that childcare centers address multiple deprivations, offering protection and nutritious meals.
He concluded by emphasizing the shared responsibility to ensure all children receive a high standard of upbringing.
